When it comes to creating a career in the music industry, it’s a well known fact that it’s no easy task. Many artists have tried, and many have failed by not standing the test of time. Emmanuelle Jacob, known for his hit song “Her Savage”, drops some gems many new artists can learn from.
Staying True To Yourself
Always remember to make music that you want to hear, not what you think the industry wants to hear. When you’re finished with a song, it’s perfectly fine to show your family or friends but don’t let their opinions dictate if you release or not.
Find Emotion Before You Write
Your first step is to find the emotion of the song you’re writing about. I usually sit down at the piano and play what my heart desires. Then, start the write the lyrics that match what your heart feels.
Watch Out For Rejection
Rejection is definitely a roadblock but, not the END of the road!! Also, be very careful of “snakes in the industry”, people trying to take your money. If the first thing you hear come out of someone’s mouth is about money, RUN lol!
Find Your “Why”
The benefits that I have choosing music as my career is that I get to do what I love. That is helping people through my lyrics and giving listeners a voice. You also get to meet a ton of other talented and aspiring artists on the journey. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
Biggest Tip To New Artists
The biggest tip that I wish I would’ve gotten is in today’s music game; record labels could care less how talented you’re. It’s about data and how you bring value to their company. It’s all business.
